You can explore their footsteps on the so-called “Leipziger Notenspur” (Leipzig Music Trail). This tour takes you to various historical places of Leipzig’s musical history.

The Leipzig Music Trail is a special experience for music lovers and anyone interested in the history of music in Germany. Along the tour, visitors can explore the places where the city’s most renowned composers lived and worked, gaining insights into their lives and creations.

The starting point is the Old City Hall, the oldest city hall in Germany, and then leads through the city to Thomaskirchhof, where Johann Sebastian Bach served as cantor and organist. There, you can also visit the famous St. Thomas Church, where Bach is buried. The journey continues to the birthplace of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, which is now used as a museum, offering insights into his life story. Another highlight of the Music Trail is the renowned concert hall of Leipzig: the Gewandhaus. Many of the city’s most famous musicians have played and given concerts here.

Another interesting stop is the Schumann House, the residence of composer Robert Schumann and his wife Clara Wieck, where you can even listen to their music.
